DETECTIVES are this after-noon poised to question boyfriends and associates of murdered Pat Grainger in a bid to trace her killer.

Officers stress the people they intend to quiz are regarded as witnesses rather than suspects.

But they could hold vital information.

A Squad of 80 investigators have been flooded with about 100 calls from shocked Parson Cross residents offering help after appeals in The Star and other media.

Callers have left information about possible boyfriends and other associates.

It has led police to believe she may have still been alive until the back end of last week.

She went missing last Monday, police revealed.

Some witnesses say they saw 25-year-old Pat in the early part of the week.

Detectives were this afternoon working to confirm that.

They also made a fresh appeal to anyone with information about the killing or Pat’s movements, as they try to piece together her last days.

Det Supt Derek Deaking said: “We are getting information about sightings through the week, though that information still has to be confimed.

“We are still wanting to hear from anyone who can help, particularly those who can tell us where she might have been staying.

“We need to trace her friends to find out what they can tell us.

“None of these could be called suspects, it is a case of tracing people she has been seen with. We need to establish where she slept.”

Police have yet to still determine whether Pat, of Buchanan Road, was murdered at ‘the brook”, off colley Drive or was killed elsewhere.

She had been sexually attacked, strangled and stabbed. Her body was found in the water, covered by part of an old bed.

Today officers were still searching the area to try to find the weapon.

Pat lived with her son, Danny, mother and step father.
