Friends join in tribute to murdered Pat

Friends join in tribute to murdered Pat

November 10th 1997

PAT Grainger led a simple and unremarkable life on the Parson Cross estate where she grew up.

It was a life cut brutally short when she was murdered in August this year – a crime which remains unsolved.

Pat was buried at Shiregreen Cemetary and Her relatives were unable to afford a fitting headstone.

Memorial

But friends are determined 25-year-old mum will not be forgotten and are to provide a memorial.

Three women who knew Pat have completed a sponsored walk to raise about £300.

Like dozens of others, they remembered Pat because she spent countless hours chatting to residents and entertaining children on the streets around her Buchanan Road home.

Organiser Diane Stephenson said Pat’s mum, Mina, and stepdad, Roy had agreed to the tribute.

Many residents who also knew her were eager to sponsor Diane, who was joined by Julie Tingle and Margaret Dunwell.

They were among people who were stunned after Pat’s body was found hidden on the edge of the estate. She had been stabbed, strangled and sexually assaulted after being missing for several days earlier.

Important

“After the funeral I took some flowers to her grave and the idea cam to me.” said Diane. “We are doing it as a tribute to Pat. We think it is important that she is not forgotten and it will be somewhere for her son, Danny, to remember his mum.”

Any cash left after the head stone is bought will be donated to the special school Pat attended as a child.
